The Design Thinking Center (DTC) on ICT for Quality of Life is now accepting applications from PhD students at the start of their PhD career. We are looking for candidates with exceptional skills in terms of creativity and entrepreneurial vocation, and with a passion for developing solutions that have a direct and concrete impact on people’s quality of life, working with an open mind and with the desire to reach across disciplines.
This program is offered with the support of the European Institute of Technology (EIT) and of TrentoRISE (a consortium of the University of Trento and the FBK research center), and it includes guest faculty from the very best institutions.
Links to web sites and application forms are provided at the bottom of this post.
The DTC is based on:
- Learning and applying the innovation process hands-on, from the conception of the idea to its business realization.
- Learning how to develop an empathy with the people, understand their needs, listen to their ideas, and create opportunities. This is also achieved by spending less time in the labs and more time on the “field”.
- Leveraging a set of services that support the activity of each DTC member, ranging from life coaching to communication designers to business mentors.
- Mobility within and outside the EIT for learning, research, and networking purposes.
- Providing working spaces and an ecosystem that favors creativity, independent thinking, collaboration, and interdisciplinary interactions.
The typical application path is to apply first to one of the EIT doctoral school and then to the DTC. Specifically, the deadline for applications to the Trento ICT Doctoral School is May 15, 2012, before 13:00, local time. After applying to the doctoral school, candidates can also apply to the DTC. Applications for the DTC close on May 30, at 13:00, local time.
